My father is a huge Dave Ramsey fan and mentions him pretty much every-time we speak on the phone. He reads his books, listens to his radio show and is also a regular website visitor. He is sold on Dave Ramsey’s teachings about how to handle finances and it was no surprise when he insisted I read The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness letting me know he’d already mailed it. I received the book on Friday, began reading it on Saturday and was finished and completely inspired by Monday! I was so inspired by this book on how to manage finances, become debt free, and build wealth while saving for college and retirement that I wanted to purchase a copy for every person I know and care about. You must read this book if you have money and you must read this book urgently if you don’t have money!
I contacted one of my daughters today to let her know that she needed to put down any book she had going to get started on this one, STAT. The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness
According to Dave, 70% of Americans live from paycheck to paycheck and even more are not prepared for retirement or for their kids to attend college. Having been a loan officer for many years, I’ve seen my share of pretty scary debt pictures and the stress that goes along with it. I’ve experienced being close to broke, more than once and my husband and I are currently debt free having learned from our difficult life lessons. The only debt we have is our home in California, which we plan to put on the market as soon as the tenants move out early next year. Reading Dave’s book made the decision to sell our home in California easy!
In The The Total Money Makeover, Dave gives step-by-step instructions on how to get out of debt with example after example of people who’ve done it and living the life they always dreamed of. There are so many stories of people ranging from their mid twenties to retirement age who got out of debt and live comfortably within their means on the money they make from their investments and the wealth they’ve accumulated.
This book teaches you everything you need to know about how to set up a college fund for your children, along with which college funds are the best ones to consider and why. he explains why you shouldn’t pay for college on credit and how to make sure you’re set for retirement. It’s such helpful information.
For entrepreneurs like you and me, he gives you the financial recipe to having the freedom to start your own business and follow your passion. He teaches you how to retire so you really can do whatever work you want to do! His definition of retirement is not having to work and having it as an option, can you imagine! I myself am not there yet, but I’m on my way and have a much better idea of where I’m headed thanks to this book.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this book, it should be required reading for high school graduates and college freshman because it’s filled with all the information our parents didn’t share with us about finances because those are “adult matters”.
