You know you have a tacky business card if…
Having attended a lot if networking events lately, I've handed out and been collecting a lot of business cards. As I review my stack of cards, I'm continually puzzled as to why a small business owner (obviously networking) would not invest $69 in professional business cards, and that's for a 1000.
I've created this simple (yet, fun and amusing) test to determine if your business card is indeed tacky. Followed by a fun and amusing challenge.
You know your business card is tacky when…
- You hand someone your business card at a mixer, when they accidentally spill wine on it or use it as a coaster, the ink smears!
- When you hold it by the edge, it bends like a wet spaghetti noodle!
- Your headshot makes your business card look like a "calling card"…if you know what I mean.
- Your headshot looks like a mugshot from the last time you "did time".
- Your headshot IS your high school graduation photo, a glamor shot or a snapshot from the last party you were at and you have a cocktail in your hand.
- It's see through, because it's printed on copy paper, and it actually looks like a scrap of paper because it's wrinkled when you pull it out of your pocket.
- Clip Art??? Need I say more?
- You say, "I'm sorry" when you hand your business card out. Could be a sign.
- You admit you got them from Vista Print, because your business card actually has their contact information printed on it too!
- You designed it yourself, and you have "an eye" for design, equivalent those horrible singers on American Idol who think they can sing. Remember William Hung? You know who you are.
CHALLENGE: I double dog dare you to turn yourself in on our Facebook page and we will happily take $10 off your order for new business cards. I want to see those tacky business cards and when we help you with new ones, we'll make sure to post your business card makeover! This is going to be fun.
You must turn yourself in, even if it isn't all that tacky. Makeovers are fun!
