Why your headshot NEEDS to be on your marketing materials
Real estate sales is about relationships and people like to do business with people they know and like. If you are working to create a brand for yourself in real estate industry, it is important for people to actually recognize you. When someone sees your photo over and over and over, they begin to feel like know you and they definitely will have a tendency to recognize you, should they run in to you around town.
Believe me when I tell you that I understand how difficult it is to DECIDE to get your head shot done/updated as it is one of the services we provide to our local clients. When we have clients come by for head shots, you would think my camera was a drill and I was about to do a root canal without Novocaine!
The thing to remember with headshots is:
- It should be on all your marketing materials…YOU are your brand!
- Is fear what is keeping you from putting your headshot on your materials? You know if someone chooses to do business with you, they are going to find out what you look like at some point, aren't they?
- Your headshot should actually look like you! I know this sounds crazy, but really…your headshot isn't doing you any favors or helping to build brand awareness if it looks nothing like you.
- Dress as people see you when they meet you in your headshot. If you are a "suit" kind of person, wear a suit in your headshot, if your not…then don't.
- Ladies…If you hair is short now and it used to be long, your headshot should feature your short hair. You know…it should look like you! (My 2008 headshot pictured above is different than my hair today!)
- Don't have so much touching up done to your headshot that it looks like a "glamor shot" instead of a business headshot. It isn't a beauty pageant, it is your business and your headshot should show that.
- Don't use a "mug shot" that someone snapped head on for your headshot. It looks ridiculous and unfortunately, we see it often when we create business cards.
- A good time to update your headshot is everytime you re-order business cards.
- Pay attention to what is the background of your photo and if you don't have a good background, pay a graphics designer to remove the backdrop and fix the photo. PrinterBees charges a small $15 fee to take the backdrop off your photo when we are customizing your real estate marketing materials.
- Last but not least…update your headshot at least once per year. It is the best way to make sure you headshot stays current.
The moral of the story is…put your headshot on everything!!! People will recognize you if you do…and you actually market your business.
Happy Selling!
