Seo Scam Continued
In my last post I talked about how easy it is to get scammed by your SEO provider and what to look for. In this post, I want to give you a few more details without overwhelming you. First of all, SEO is pretty complicated and is in no way something you should "scrimp" when it comes to hiring the right person/company.
Keyword research:
The reason the price goes up as you add more keywords is because the keyword research is very time intensive and takes a lot of time to research and analyze. Your keywords should be picked based on what people are searching for ALONG with how competitive the keyword is and how well it applies to what you are trying to attract with your traffic. You really don't want to start out with keywords that are so competitive with other companies that are on top of their SEO that you most likely won't compete with them "initially". After you get some traffic, some links, etc. You can then take on those more competitive key words.
Thoughts on keyword research…more like me standing on my soapbox!
How can someone do a great job picking your keywords and helping you to determine if they are the right keywords possibly do a great job for about $100 bucks! It simply ISN'T POSSIBLE for someone to do a great job and get you results for $100. Don't waste your money because you will not get found towards the top of a search result for $100 a month. Do you really think it is that easy?
Google "spiders" and "crawlers" look for some pretty specific things when it comes to how they index your site. They look at content, content, content and yes, you guessed it…CONTENT. Your content must have something to do with your keywords. The search engines also need some direction from you/your site on where, what when they should crawl your site. Your robot.txt files help give Google some direction. Your sitemap also gives Google good directions around your site and tells them where to crawl. These are two VERY STANDARD things that are so basic and so often not done.
Source Code:
If you have ever been on a website, right clicked and picked the option of viewing a sites "source code" you have seen a bunch of HTML code that probably means a "whole lot of nothing" to you, which is totally okay….BUT this is what the spiders and crawlers see when they pay a visit to your site. It is a great visual and I highly recommend you take a look at it. When you can wrap your mind around what a googlebot sees it will help you understand WHY….you have to have your images optimized too! This again is very basic on page SEO "stuff".
Image Optimization:
If you were a "googlebot" and came across this code….
<img src="images/logo_img02.jpg"
Would you know what this company does? What they sell? Who they service? Products? etc. You sure wouldn't and Google doesn't know either. To give the search engines as much information about your business and the visitors you are looking to attract, your images must have "alternative text", which looks like this:
<img src="images/logo_img02.jpg" alt="online printing"
This line of code is from the PrinterBees website and tells the search engine robot that we are an online printing company. If you have given your SEO provider/consultant so much as a dollar to help you with SEO should include adding alternative text to your images. If they don't know about this, they are definitely not a good SEO company for you.
Link Building:
Link building is critical to you being found on the search engines. a link from a "GOOD WEB SITE" with a "GOOD PAGE RANK" is really important to your plan. A link is similar to a "vote" that your site is a good site. This should also be part of your plan as it plays a very important role in how the search engines rank your site.
